Roxana suarez

As the master instructor and artistic director of our club, Roxana Suarez is one of today’s most appreciated and followed female dancers and teachers in the world. Her tango journey began before she even took her first steps, as she swayed to the rhythms of tango in her mother’s womb. Growing up in her grandmother’s milonga in Buenos Aires, Roxana had the privilege of witnessing and learning from the finest dancers of the era.

Embodying the experience of years of living and breathing the authentic tango scene of Buenos Aires, at a very young age, in February 2007, Roxana began her professional tango career. Since then, she has been attending tango events and prestigious international festivals around the world.

She knows the embrace of the most renowned tango dancers such as Facundo Piñero, Javier Rodríguez, Mariano Chicho Frúmboli… and probably her greatest virtue is her ability to adapt and still be herself.

Firmly rooted in the belief that to be a remarkable teacher, one must first be a dedicated student, she never ceased to explore, study, and evolve her dance, constantly refining her teaching methods.

Radi shafie

In 2009, Radi Shafie started dancing tango and immediately became immersed in it. His pursuit of dancing and studying tango has never stopped, and he considers himself first and foremost a student of this exquisite and complex dance. Over the years, he also obtained a PhD in Critical Dance Studies, focusing his research on the “popular milongas” of Buenos Aires. He finds the endless potential for learning that this dance offers to be most inspiring and is always striving to improve himself. His main teachers have included Carlitos Espinoza, Moira Castellano, and Roxana Suarez.

He experiences tango as a moving meditation; a unique kind of meditation since it involves another person. This meditative experience is possible only through the cooperation of the other. To be more precise, what makes this experience unique for Radi is that it requires a constant embodied awareness of the other. When he is attuned to the finest details of the presence and movement of his partner, he has truly arrived.

Radi has a passion for teaching tango and has taught in both community and university settings over the past decade. In more recent years, he has primarily taught with his partner Oldřiška, focusing not only on teaching movement but also on sensitivity and awareness. He views the exploration of ways to transmit the nuances of this dance as a rewarding challenge.

Chicho

Mariano “Chicho” Frumboli is one of the most influential tango dancers of our time. He has undoubtedly played the main role in the creative evolution of Tango for more than 20 years. Owner of a unique style, he is renowned worldwide for his personality, musicality and creativity. An artist in every sense of the word, he is not just a dancer but a musician, a composer, an actor, and a teacher; a very sensitive person, clearly.

He travels the globe along with Juana, his dance partner, to perform in the biggest tango festivals and teach workshops and intensive seminars where they are sought after by the crowds who try to absorb some of their knowledge. But for a very long time since Chicho hasn’t been teaching regular classes in a single location, so we believe this is a huge opportunity for the tango community in Barcelona (and perhaps the whole of Europe) to improve and to push forward their tango standards. And we feel so proud that he has decided to do it in El Olivo.

Chicho has given the world of Tango one of the greatest gifts that an artist could ever give: he has become an example himself of continuous questioning and endless search.
